October in Vietnam is the month when the seasons reverse. In the north, the best time of the year begins: dry, around 28°C (82°F), and Hanoi responds with the country's busiest calendar: the Festival of World Cultures, Oktoberfest, the Autumn Festival, and the Eifman Ballet. The central coast , on the other hand, enters the peak of rains and typhoons, while the south endures the final weeks of the rainy season.

📍 Hanoi

October's top city: Dry weather coincided with five major events.

  • October 1–4: Festival of World Cultures. The 2nd Thang Long Imperial Citadel Festival: 50 Countries, "Five Continents Concert", Street Procession, October 3 at 4:00 PM, Closing on October 4 at 8:00 PM. Program and details.
  • October 8–10: GBA Oktoberfest. JW Marriott Hanoi, 18:00 PM–23:00 PM, unlimited German beer and buffet, tickets VND2,1 million–2,4 million. Prices and how to buy.
  • October 10: Day of the Liberation of the Capital. A commemorative date, with flags and celebratory events throughout the city. It is not a public holiday.
  • October 16-18: Hanoi Autumn Festival. Thong Nhat Park: handicrafts from the villages of Bat Trang and Van Phuc, the photo and art exhibition "Autumn Hanoi", folk games, workshops, and the Hanoi Autumn Run.
  • October 28–31: Boris Eifman’s ballet Eugene Onegin. Friendship Palace of Culture, starts at 19:30. All Russian events of the season.

📍 Ho Chi Minh City

  • October 17–18: HCMC Youth Concert “Thanh âm lên đàng.” Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street, featuring performances by Ho Ngoc Ha, Phuong My Thi, and Lam Bao Ngoc. The stage seats over 10,000 spectators, and organizers expect around 50,000 people over the two days.
  • October 21–24: Eifman’s ballet “Eugene Onegin”. Hoa Binh Theatre, 19:30 PM. Tickets available at Ticketbox, Ticketmelon, MetaTicket, and TicketVN.
  • Exhibitions for business: VietBaby Fair October 15–18 (products for mothers and children, 250 brands from 14 countries), Vietnam FoodTech and Vietstock Expo October 21–23 at the SECC Exhibition Center.

Oktoberfest in Ho Chi Minh City took place earlier than other cities this year, on September 24–26.

📍 Da Nang

  • October 2: GBA Oktoberfest. Furama Resort Danang, 18:00 PM–23:00 PM, 1,75 million VND, unlimited beer and German buffet.
  • October 2–8: Miss Global Heritage 2026. The Miss World Heritage International Beauty Pageant is held across the city.

The weather here in October is a major factor: it's the peak of the rainy season and typhoons on the central coast. Planning a beach vacation is risky, and the city's lowlands are prone to flooding after heavy rains.

📍 Hoi An

October 23: Full Moon Night. Every month, on the 14th day of the lunar calendar, the old town turns off the electric lights and lives by lanterns: paper lanterns with wishes are floated down the Thu Bon River, and traditional music plays in the streets.

In October and November, the Thu Bon River often overflows its banks and floods the streets of the old town. Check the forecast before your trip and avoid booking non-refundable accommodations right next to the river.

📍 Khazyan and Sapa

In the northern mountains, the buckwheat bloom season begins in October . Fields are sown in three waves, so the pink slopes last from October until the end of December. The Buckwheat Flower Festival itself opens on November 6 in Dong Van (formerly Ha Giang Province, now part of Tuyen Quang Province).

In Sapa, the golden season of rice terraces ends in the first ten days of October, after which the harvest begins.

📍 Phu Quoc, Nha Trang and Dalat

  • Phu Quoc: The low season and rains, but housing prices are the lowest of the year. The island's main news for November is already known: on November 13, Sun Phu Quoc Airways will launch direct flight to Moscow, and it starts in November new season of the show "Symphony of the Sea".
  • Nha Trang: The rainy season is beginning, and the sea is stormy on some days. A Mumiy Troll concert has already been announced for January.
  • Dalat: cool and calm, around +23 °C during the day.

⚙️ What this means for you: October practice

October 20: Vietnamese Women's Day

It's not a holiday, but in Vietnam it's celebrated almost like March 8th: women receive flowers and gifts, and colleagues are congratulated at work. Flowers are noticeably more expensive on this day, and restaurants are packed in the evening. If you're planning dinner, make reservations in advance.

Typhoon season on the central coast

Da Nang, Hoi An, and Hue are at risk in October. Keep an eye on the forecast, buy rebookable tickets, and purchase travel insurance that covers trip cancellation due to weather.

Tickets for the main events are sold out in advance.

This applies to the Eifman Ballet and the Hanoi Oktoberfest: some tickets for October 9th are already sold out. If this event is important to you, don't delay purchasing.
