SAPA: THE GOLDEN SEASON OF RICE TERRACES HAS STARTED

SAPA: THE GOLDEN SEASON OF RICE TERRACES HAS STARTED

September 15th to October 10th is the peak season for the golden rice terraces, the most popular and most expensive time to travel to Sapa. Hotel prices can double, so book at least three weeks in advance.

Arrival rules have been updated from June 22.

On June 22, 2026, updated entry regulations for foreign citizens came into effect in Vietnam . Before arrival, you must complete an online declaration at prearrival.immigration.gov.vn and present the QR code at passport control. Failure to complete the form may result in delays at the border.

Telecom operators require data updates by August 15.08

Vietnamese mobile operators (Viettel, Mobifone, Vinaphone) are sending out mass text messages demanding subscribers update their personal data at the nearest mobile phone store. The deadline is August 15, 2026. Failure to do so may result in the number being blocked or restricted. For foreigners, this means visiting the operator's office with your passport and updating your linked data in person. Online access is not available.

All the most important things about Sapa

When is the best time to go to Sapa and what is the weather like there all year round?

The best times to visit are March-May and September-November , when the weather is mild (15-25°C) and rainfall is minimal. September-October is prime time for photographers: the rice terraces turn golden during harvest time. Summer (June-August) is the rainy season with a risk of landslides, but lush green vegetation. Winter is cool and dry, with temperatures dropping to 6°C, and occasional snowfall on the mountain peaks.

How to get from Hanoi to Sapa?

There are three main options: the sleeper bus is the most popular, takes 6-7 hours, costs about $10, departs at 22:00 PM, arrives at 4:00 AM. The overnight train to Lao Cai + shuttle is more comfortable, departs at 22:00 PM, arrives at 7:00 AM. For premium travel, choose the Chapa Express. A private car takes 5,5 hours, is more expensive, but you can stop at the Silver Falls along the way.

How many days do you need for Sapa?

A minimum of 2-3 days is recommended for the main treks and rice terraces. 4-6 days are ideal for leisurely exploring villages, homestays, and climbing Fansipan. One day can only cover the surface—it's better to focus on a few high-quality activities than to try to cover everything.
