APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation): 21 economies from the region, from the United States and China to Australia, Japan, and Russia. Each year, one of them chairs and hosts the main meeting, Economic Leaders' Week. In 2027, Vietnam will chair the summit, and Leaders' Week will be held in Fukuoka. This is Vietnam's third APEC summit: previously, Hanoi (2006) and Da Nang (2017) hosted the summit.
When and where will APEC 2027 be held?
Economic Leaders Week is scheduled for November 2027 and will last approximately seven days. The exact dates have not yet been announced; we will add them here as soon as they are published. The location is the Phu Quoc Special Economic Zone in An Giang Province.
The "APEC Year" itself begins earlier: the first informal meeting of senior officials will be held in December 2026 in Gia Lai Province. Throughout 2027, ministerial and working meetings will be held in various cities across the country, culminating in the summit in Fukuoka.
Who will come?
Organizers estimate that 10,000–12,000 people will arrive on the island: leaders and delegations from 21 economies, approximately 2,000 business representatives at the CEO Summit, and approximately 3,000 journalists. The program includes a meeting of foreign and economic ministers, an APEC CEO Summit, a meeting of economic leaders, bilateral talks, and a cultural program.
What's being built in Fukuoka?
- The APEC Conference Centre is the main venue for the leaders' meeting.
- International press center and hotels for journalists.
- Multifunctional concert hall APEC.
- Fukuoka Airport expansion means more international flights.
- New 5-6 star hotels with conference halls.
At the same time, the authorities of the special zone launched a program to teach local residents English.
What does this mean for tourists?
No official restrictions for tourists have yet been announced for November 2027. Based on the experience of Da Nang in 2017, during the summit, roads near the venues and along delegation routes are typically closed, security at the airport is strengthened, and hotels near the venues are pre-booked for delegations, leading to rising prices. The city itself, however, was not closed to tourists.
If you're planning a trip to Phu Quoc in November 2027, book your accommodation in advance with free cancellation, or even better, choose dates before or after Leaders Week. We'll update this section as soon as official rules are released.
What does this mean for businesses and residents?
For the summit, the island is receiving infrastructure that will remain afterward: a conference center, an expanded airport, and new hotels. Phu Quoc is focusing on business tourism—conferences, forums, and exhibitions.
