The One Pillar Pagoda is one of the oldest and most recognizable pagodas in Vietnam. It was built in 1049 by Emperor Ly Thai Tong, who, according to legend, saw the goddess of mercy sitting on a lotus flower in a dream.

The pagoda's architectural uniqueness lies in the fact that the entire structure is erected on a single stone column, rising above a small pond. This gives the structure the appearance of a blossoming lotus flower, which in Vietnamese culture symbolizes purity and spiritual perfection.

Despite its relatively small size, the pagoda holds immense religious and historical significance. It has been repeatedly restored after wars and natural damage, preserving its original appearance and cultural value.

Today, both tourists and locals come here to pray, make offerings, and explore one of the country's most famous monuments.

Thanks to its unique design and centuries-old history, One Pillar Pagoda is considered one of the main architectural landmarks not only of Hanoi, but of all of Vietnam.
