From July 1st, you can wake up in another province in Vietnam without getting up from your sofa.
52 provinces are being merged into 23 new administrative units. Quang Binh and Quang Tri will merge to form the new province of Quang Tri, with the capital Dong Hoi; area 12,700 km², population 1,87 million. At the same time, 11 large ones: Hanoi, Hue, Quang Ninh, Thanh Hoa will remain unchanged.
Along with the map, the very structure of government will change. Vietnam will eliminate the district level of government and transition to a two-tier system, consisting of only provinces and communes. The government apparatus will be reduced by approximately 250,000 people , saving over 190 trillion dong by 2030.
A country with a strictly centralized system of government is carrying out one of the largest administrative restructurings in its history, and it is not the army that is being cut, but the number of officials.
If you have existing leases, legal addresses, business registrations, or tourist reservations in provinces that are part of the association, it's worth checking with your counterparty to determine how the transition period will be handled and whether you need to update your documents in the near future.
