Basic questions about Phong Nha
When is the best time to go to Phong Nha? I heard there are problems with rain there
The golden rule of Phong Nhi is that the dry season from February to August is ideal for visiting. Temperatures are comfortable at 18-34°C, humidity is low, and all caves are accessible. The peak seasons of February-April and June-August offer the best weather but more tourists. The rainy season is September-January , when many caves are closed due to high water levels. October-December is especially recommended. But here's a secret: March-May is the golden mean, with excellent weather and fewer crowds! The temperature in the caves is ~20°C year-round, but outside it can reach 41°C in the summer or 6°C in the winter.
What are the must-see caves in Phong Ne? What makes them different?
Top 3 must-see caves! Phong Nha Cave is a classic, accessible only by boat on an underground river, a 30-minute ride along the Son River plus a hike inside. Paradise Cave is the longest dry cave in Asia, with 1 km of wooden walkways and stunning stalactites. Dark Cave is for the extreme! A 400-meter zipline over the river, exploration with flashlights, and mud baths inside. For an advanced experience, a 4.5-km kayak expedition to Phong Nha Cave is for true adventurers. And of course, Son Doong Cave is the largest in the world, but tours start at $3000 and must be booked a year in advance!
